UniqueBook makes a personalized, illustrated digital storybook from the photos and answers you give us. UniqueBook is operated by Ancho Solutions LLC, 30 N Gould St Ste N, Sheridan, WY 82801. This page explains what we collect, where it goes and how long we keep it. For questions or requests, see our Contact page.
What we collect
- Photos you add of the people (and pets) in the book: 1 to 4 photos per character, up to 4 characters.
- Character details: each character's name, role (for example "grandchild"), age group and the appearance details you choose, such as eye and hair color.
- Story details: the occasion, the story theme and anything you write for the story, such as favorite moments, things to include, a special phrase and the dedication.
- Your email address, which the quiz asks for before your preview is made.
- Your mobile number and a record of your consent, if you sign up for UniqueBook text messages (see Text messages below).
- Technical data: a session cookie that keeps your book linked to your browser, and your IP address, which our server and our network provider use to deliver the pages and to limit abuse.
- Payment details: we never see or store card details. If payments are offered, the payment provider shown at checkout processes payment details under its own privacy information.
How we use it
- To draw the characters, the style previews, the cover and the pages of your book, and to write its story.
- To show you the free preview and, after purchase, the full digital copy of your book, online.
- To keep your book available when you come back in the same browser, and on the private link you can save from the preview.
- If you give us your email: to send access information for a purchased book when email delivery is available, and to answer your request.
- If you ask us to email you the link to your preview: to send you that link and then up to 5 reminders about that book, which may include an offer for that book, through our email provider, Klaviyo. Each of these emails has a link to stop them.
- To protect the service (limits per browser and per IP address, for example on how many new books one network can start).
- To measure, in aggregate, how many visitors reach each step, so we can improve the site and our ads.
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't use your photos, your child's details or your story to train AI models.
Your photos and the AI drawing service
UniqueBook uses outside AI services, Sunra.ai and Kie.ai, to draw and write your book. Sunra.ai is our main service; Kie.ai is used when Sunra.ai is unavailable:
- The photos you add, and each character's role, age group and appearance details, are sent to the image service (Sunra.ai, which passes them to image models such as OpenAI's and Google's, or Kie.ai as a backup) to draw the style previews and the character portraits. The cover and the pages are then drawn from the portraits you approve and the same details. Names are not sent to the image service.
- The characters' names and roles and the story details you write are sent to an AI text service to write the story: Claude, by Anthropic, through Sunra.ai (or a text model through Kie.ai). To check that each drawn picture matches the story, the drawn pictures (not your original photos) and the story's scene notes are also sent to Claude through Sunra.ai.
- If your book has a pet or a favorite toy in it, a smaller copy of each character's photos is also sent to an AI model (Claude, by Anthropic, through Kie.ai) that only checks whether each photo shows a person, an animal or a toy, so a photo isn't used for the wrong character. Names, roles and other text are not sent to it.
- You approve every character before any story page is drawn. Story pages are drawn from the portraits you approved, not from your original photos. If you add a second illustration style to your order, its characters are redrawn in that style from the same photos and the details you approved, without a separate approval step, and its cover and pages are drawn from those new portraits. There is no face-swap and no biometric identification or matching.
We have not yet confirmed how long Sunra.ai and Kie.ai keep the photos they receive (Sunra.ai stores uploaded photos in its own file storage while it draws). Sunra.ai, Kie.ai and the services they use may process data outside your state or country.
Photos of children
UniqueBook is for adults (18 or older). Children do not use the service themselves. Before you add photos, you confirm that you have the right to use them and that everyone pictured, or their parent or legal guardian, agrees. A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to delete a child's photos and book.
Want your photos deleted? Write to us via the Contact page and we delete them by hand. This covers the photos you added and the portraits drawn from them.
Your email address
The email you give in the quiz is required to send you the link to your preview and up to 5 reminders about that book, through our email provider, Klaviyo; every one of these emails has an unsubscribe link. We store your email with your book and use it only for:
- The link to your preview, and reminders. If you ask us to email you the link to your preview (in the quiz, while it is being made or on the preview itself), we email you that link as soon as the preview is ready, and then up to 5 reminders about that book, which may include an offer for that book. Our email provider, Klaviyo, sends these emails: to send them, Klaviyo receives your email address and a private link that opens your preview. Each of these emails has a link to stop the reminders for that book, and an unsubscribe link. Anyone who has one of these emails can open that preview from it, so please use an address that only you read.
- A purchased book. We send access information for a purchased book when email delivery is configured. An email-delivery provider then processes your email address and the private book link needed to send that email.
- Your request. We use it to answer you.
We do not sell your email, use it for advertising, give it to advertising platforms, or send offers from anyone else. The email you use at checkout is stored with your order to associate that order with its delivery information. To have your email deleted, write to us via the Contact page.
Text messages (SMS)
If you sign up for UniqueBook text messages, we collect your mobile number and a record of your consent (when and where you signed up). Our messaging provider, Klaviyo, receives your number and the content of each message in order to send it, and the mobile carriers deliver it. We use your number and consent only to send the messages you signed up for, such as updates about your book and order, reminders and offers, and to honor a request to stop. We do not sell, rent or share your mobile number or your text message opt-in consent with third parties or affiliates for their marketing purposes. Text message opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except the service providers that deliver our text messages (Klaviyo and the mobile carriers). Reply STOP to any message to stop all texts, or HELP for help. See our Mobile Terms of Service.
Your book's private link
On your book's preview you can save or share a private link to it, for example to open it on another phone or tablet. Anyone who has the link can see that preview: the cover, the first pages and the later pages blurred, as you see them before buying. They can't see your photos or your email address, and they can't change anything. Please only send the link to people you trust. The link stops working when your book is deleted.
Who receives your data
- Sunra.ai (and, through it, OpenAI, Google and Anthropic): photos, character details, story details and the drawn pictures, as described above.
- Kie.ai: the same, when it is used as the backup service.
- Cloudflare: carries the traffic between your browser and our server.
- Google Fonts: your browser loads the fonts of this site from Google's servers, which see your IP address.
- People you send your book's preview link to: the preview of that book, as described above.
- Klaviyo (our email provider), if you ask us to email you the link to your preview: your email address and a private link that opens your preview, to send that link and up to 5 reminders about that book.
- Klaviyo (our messaging provider), if you sign up for text messages: your mobile number and the content of each message, to send the texts you signed up for.
- Email-delivery provider, when email delivery is configured: the recipient email address and the private book link needed to send a delivery email.
- The payment provider shown at checkout, if payments are offered: it processes payment details under its own privacy information. We receive the order confirmation, the amount and the buyer's email address.
- Advertising measurement: to measure our ads we may use Google Tag Manager and the Meta Pixel. They receive which step of the site you reached (for example "preview reached"), the campaign parameters from the ad link (such as utm tags), and the identifiers these tools set in your browser. They never receive names, email addresses, photos, story text or your book's link from UniqueBook, and Meta's automatic advanced matching is switched off. Google and Meta handle this data under their own policies.
- Funnel analytics (Launch Tracker, hosted on Vercel): on our landing pages, the checkout and order pages and these policy pages, it receives the page address and title (on the order page that is the address of your order page, which only opens in the browser or account that placed the order), which page you reached, the text and destination of buttons and links you press, the campaign parameters from the ad link (such as utm tags and ad click ids), your IP address and browser type, and a random visit identifier it keeps in your browser. It is not used in the quiz, so it never receives your photos, names, story text, email address or your book's preview link. Session recording is switched off.
- Microsoft Clarity (site analytics): on our landing pages, in the quiz, on the checkout and order pages and in the book preview reader, it records the page address, how the page is used (clicks, scrolling, taps on our main buttons and which step you reached), your browser and device type and your IP address, so we can see where the site is hard to use. We hide the page's content from Clarity before it loads, so its recordings show the layout and your clicks but not the text or pictures on the page, such as names, story text, email addresses or your photos. It is not used on your book's private links or your account pages. Microsoft handles this data under its own privacy statement.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
Cookies and storage on your device
- __Host-sb_session: a necessary cookie that links your browser to your books. It lasts 30 days and is renewed when you come back.
- Browser storage on your device keeps your unfinished answers, which book you are working on, which steps were already counted for measurement, and whether the email card of a book was already shown or closed. After you add your grandchild's photo in the quiz, a small thumbnail of it stays in this tab's session storage so the quiz can show it; it is gone when the tab closes. Local storage also keeps the times the last few books were started in this browser (
sb_creates), so we can limit new books to two a day. Email addresses are never kept there. - If advertising measurement is on, Google and Meta may set their own cookies.
- Launch Tracker keeps its visit and session identifiers, the campaign details from the ad link and which pages were reached in your browser's local and session storage (names starting with
lt_).
You can delete cookies and site data in your browser settings at any time. You will then lose the link between that browser and your unfinished book; a private link you saved from the preview still opens its preview.
How long we keep it
We keep your photos, the pictures drawn from them, your answers and your story with your book, so that we can finish it and you can read it again later.
Nothing is deleted automatically yet. We have a deletion tool, which we run by hand, that removes the original photos of books that were never bought after 7 days, and of delivered books 30 days after delivery. Until it runs on a schedule, your photos can be kept longer than that. The drawn pictures, the story and the finished book are kept with your book. There are no accounts yet: an unfinished book and preview are linked to the browser that made them while its session is active. A private delivery link can open a purchased full book on another device; anyone who has it can read the full book, so keep it private. If you sign up for text messages, we keep your mobile number while you are subscribed, and a record of your sign-up and of any request to stop for as long as we need it to show that we had your consent and honored your request. Want your photos deleted sooner? Write to us via the Contact page and we delete them by hand.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to show you, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you or your child. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have further rights, including to opt out of the use of your information for targeted advertising. To make any request, write to us via the Contact page, from the email address you used if you gave one, and tell us which book it is about. We won't treat you differently for making a request.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Your photos are never shown publicly. An unfinished book and preview are linked to your browser session. A preview link opens only the preview; its locked pages cannot be opened before purchase. A private delivery link can open the purchased full book, so anyone who has that link can read it. No system is perfectly secure, so please only upload photos you are comfortable sharing with us.
Changes
When we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
